Verbatim - Ronnie Bernheim: reinforcing Swiss Made criteria will jeopardize jobs

Not everyone is happy with the "Swissness" project. Far from it, as swissinfo.ch explains. Currently under discussion by the Swiss parliament, it lays down tougher Swiss Made criteria, stipulating that at least 60% of watches' cost price must be produced in Switzerland, versus the current 50%. Around a quarter of manufacturers of low to mid-range watches have formed a Swiss Made Community of Interests to oppose the proposed revision of the law.

Verbatim - Vontobel: Swiss watch industry 2010: positive growth again

The year 2009 will go down as a year of crisis in the history of luxury goods companies, all of which experienced sales and margin declines. Leather goods producers (Hermès, LVMH), however, suffered to a lesser degree than watch and jewellery makers (Swatch Group, Richemont, Bulgari). Positive signs already emerged in 4Q09 and continued in 1Q10 (+16,6%) owing to the easier comparison base.
